“Nacewicz Unveils Senior Tax Freeze Program”

September 16, 2010

PLAINVILLE- State Representative Candidate, Stanley Nacewicz, proposed a new initiative that would essentially freeze property taxes for Senior Citizens who meet specific criteria.

The program, “Property Tax Freeze for Seniors”, would halt property tax hikes for Senior Citizens who meet both of the following criteria:

1.      He or She must be of the age 65 and over and

2.      Must have 15 years residency in the town for which they apply

“More and more people these days, particularly our Senior Citizens, are getting the boot because of unfair property tax hikes,” Nacewicz says. “As Chief Tax Assessor for the City of Attleboro, I’m constantly hearing stories of whole families being forced to move out-of-state or with loved ones because they can’t afford property taxes.”

Nacewicz thinks the time is right to propose an initiative like “Tax Freeze for Seniors” on Beacon Hill.

“I think there will be enough support for a proposal like this simply because everyone is seeing the same trend. Senior Citizens, and folks on fixed incomes, can’t and shouldn’t be forced to choose between their homes or their life savings.”

The “Property Tax Freeze for Seniors” program would be determined at the state level and could be optioned by each city or town in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Nacewicz adds, “This proposal will help fix a broken system while giving the local governments the option to assist their Seniors. The present exemption for Seniors is outdated and needs to be reformed as it has been done in other states.”

Nacewicz is the Democratic Candidate for State Representative in the Ninth Norfolk District. District includes: Wrentham, Plainville, Norfolk, Millis (Precinct 1), Medfield (Pct. 3, 4), and Walpole (Pct. 5).

Nacewicz calls Republican's attacks “way off target.”

September 14, 2010

PLAINVILLE- Democratic candidate for State Representative Stanley J. Nacewicz has issued a statement to the Ninth Norfolk District rebutting his opponent on the tax issue.

[The original news article can be found in the Walpole Times @ http://www.wickedlocal.com/walpole/features/x353266851/Campaign-Trail-Norfolk-County-s-Ninth-House-District-Democrat-Stan-Nacewicz-is-full-of-out-of-the-box-ideas]

Nacewicz, a longtime Plainville resident and the current appointed Chief Tax Assessor for the City of Attleboro, MA is running against Norfolk corporate attorney Daniel Winslow in the race for State Representative of the Ninth Norfolk District.

“My opponent has labeled my excise tax proposal as a mandated tax increase and it’s completely false. He’s obviously failed to see that 1) the plan is entirely an option for communities, 2) if the communities decide to implement the plan, the direct revenue generated would go directly back to the communities (unlike sales tax which goes back to the Commonwealth) and 3) the current excise tax system as it stands needs to be updated.”

Nacewicz continues, “The reason I introduced the plan in the news article was to try to stimulate the local economies in generating some income for the local area, total under their local control and not that of the State. If he’s going to criticize me over trying to come up with ideas on how to get our folks back to work while generating income for the Ninth District, he’s clearly misled and misleading us as taxpayers.”

Nacewicz also touts his experience in the issues. “I’ve spent twenty-three years on the Board of Assessors in Plainville and nine years as the appointed Chief Tax Assessor for the city of Attleboro and have extensive experience in dealing with taxes and their effects on the citizens of Massachusetts. Anyone who doubts that I’m strongly against tax increases can see my stances on my website, www.ElectStan.com."

Nacewicz also disagrees with Winslow’s criticism of his sales tax proposal, “It’s also abundantly clear to me that my opponent doesn’t understand the tax system we have in Massachusetts." He adds, “It’s a very weak argument to label my plan a ‘tax increase’ when I’d like to lower the sales tax to 5-5.75%. He’s clearly unaware that we’re already at a 6.25% sales tax rate already.”

Nacewicz adds, “My opponent has also failed to mention the plan I’ve proposed to freeze property taxes on Senior Citizens. This plan will help seniors be able to stay in their homes instead of having to be forced out due to tax hikes.”

Nacewicz also stated that “while Dan Winslow may have been endorsed by tax watchdog group Citizens for Limited Taxation, were it not for my efforts on April 24th, 2010, we would be facing another property tax increase from the Massachusetts Legislature.”

Nacewicz finally adds, “I was happy to work with CLT on this project and they’ve credited me with bringing this issue to their attention.”

NACEWICZ CAMPAIGN RELEASE
August 9, 2010

This November, I humbly ask for your support as I run as a Democrat for State Representative of the Ninth Norfolk District. I have been a resident of Plainville, Massachusetts for the last 25 years and I would be honored to represent you full-time on Beacon Hill.

I have been very fortunate to raise my two daughters in the Ninth District that fosters a great school system such as King Phillip Regional.

Though I was born in Connecticut, I was fortunate enough to arrive to this area like many of my friends and neighbors…searching for employment.  Armed with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Texas Instruments hired me as an Engineer and later as an Engineering Manager. While I presently serve as Chief Assessor for the City of Attleboro, for the last 23 years I’ve served on the Plainville Board of Assessors as well.  I’m also a former member on the Plainville Board of Health.

Since becoming involved with the community, I’ve seen where our strengths lie and where improvements can be made.  The basis of my campaign is very straightforward in these trying economic times for families of the Ninth Norfolk.

Over the past 2 months, I’ve met many voters throughout the district.  They tell me they’re tired of candidates who are politically connected.  They’re tired of the blame game. Those who have been in office for a number of years should understand the process and possess the ability to get things accomplished.  The bottom line is this: success is measured by results, not by political rhetoric.

Unfortunately, the Commonwealth’s finances remain precarious; offering little hope of significant relief for local budgets or job market improvements. I see this everyday as I assist families that are out of work, and are doing whatever they can to save their homes. Working with the Department of Revenue on a periodic basis also helps give important information about the economic conditions of the state.

Every child in the District must have the opportunity for the highest quality public education. We must do everything possible to provide stable funding of the public school system.  We must fully support our teachers and recognize the importance of their work.

We also need effective programs to assist seniors with property tax incentives; I will propose a plan, to ensure that no senior citizen will lose his or her home because of rising real estate tax rates.

I will also encourage efforts to better serve our veterans, support the needs of our working families, promote environmental protection efforts, and stimulate job growth by creating more opportunity for small businesses; as small businesses are the job creation engines of Massachusetts.

I look forward to a spirited campaign with my opponent that provokes only the best ideas about how to improve our communities and fundamentally alter “Politics as Usual” up at Beacon Hill. I hope to be seeing all of my friends and neighbors from the Ninth Norfolk on the campaign trail.

Thanks again Mass Election for this informative website and thanks to the readers for their passion about the issues.

Sincerely,

Stanley J. Nacewicz
